A far too familiar preserve of the editorial assistant and struggling author, the late-night discount space within Tesco looks as if it will be soon adding to its number. In amongst the wilting spring onions and yoghurts with minutes to live, it appears that you may also now find a fully-fledged digital ebook platform going cheap. Blinkbox Books has been put up for sale following a recent strategic review and, according to the recent article in The Bookseller, will close if no buyer is found.
Blinkbox Books is only a part of the larger enterprise of Blinkbox, a digital movie-streaming platform which presumably pitched itself as the ‘Netflix for digital movie-streaming.’ The big difference between the two seems to be that Blinkbox doesn’t work on a subscription basis, but on a pay-per-film basis. And that it’s being sold off.
So, for any enterprising authors out there who are on the verge of publishing an ebook, now might be a good time to pick up a bargain on an ebook platform. The little yellow sticker that will presumably be attached may well show one of the largest discounts that has ever been seen on a Tesco aisle.
