The Frankfurt Book Fair is in full swing now in what will be one of the most frenetic weeks of the year for books deals. Some of the most interesting news to emerge is always about debut authors, as everyone scrambles to find the new rising star.
As luck would have it, one of the first deals to be announced this year was with a debut author, a six-figure deal for a contemporary ‘love story with a twist’, by Beth O’Leary. O’Leary is an editor herself, a children’s editor with Penguin Random House. This book deal, however, was signed with Quercus, by Editorial Director Emily Yau. The novel, Flatshare, will be published in 2019.
