Jennifer Pedroza, one of the four founders of The Writers’ Coffee Shop, has been awarded a judgement of $11.5 million, judged to be the proportion of royalties that she was due for the sale of the rights to EL James’ ‘book’.
This case has been bouncing around for a while, as this report from The Telegraph from June 2014 shows. In it, Pedroza clarifies that her work on the book involved issuing press releases, organising speaking engagements, and mailing out review copies of the book. The sound you can hear when you read that is the noise of 10,000 editorial interns simultaneously checking their bank balances again and sighing.
